The door won't strike me down if you don't hold it back.
The bill won't stunt my purse if you don't cover our snack.

You needn't lay your blazer over a puddle to spare my feet.
And don't worry about standing to the left of me to shield me from the street.

You don't have to stand behind me waiting to pull out my chair.
You don't have to leave the last piece for me, you can have it, or we can share.

It'd be nice if you did but I only care for what you say,
The most important thing to me is that you treat me the right way.

You could be a valiant knight riding on a fiery steed,
But if you've got no heart then sadly, love, you aren't what I need.

I have nothing against the 'classic' man when it comes to romanticism. I mean how could I? It's done out of respect and I'd never color it as chauvinism. I just wish some men wouldn't tell others that all of this is necessary.

I'm really Connecticut so I've only ever met a few southern boys but I always know them by the way they treat me lol. Not to say northern boys are rude, I just notice a higher frequencies in "you hungry/thirsty?" or just "what do you want?"- never mind that we just ate twice, if he's eating, I'm eating. And the jogging to the door ahead of me to open it, pulling out chairs- it's nice but I wouldn't say someone isn't good to me because they don't do things like that.
To each their own of course.

Chivalrous men are rare in the north. We're the last of a dying breed. People usually mistake it for mental illness or retardation, gender/race confusion, homosexuality and other false assumptions. Haters gonna hate. :toocool:

southern boys are usually like that, take it from someone who lives in Hickville :)

but of course, it's the intent that's really important (in my opinion)

Definitely. The few boys I did meet were very genuine and that was just their nature and I really did appreciate it because it felt nice to know that someone had respect enough for me to show custom despite the fact that we just met.
But sometimes I feel bad hanging out with guy friends who don't do it because they feel like they owe me something when they see others doing all this stuff.
